Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom has a mixture of kindergarten and first grade students with special needs. My students are loving, energetic and range in age from 5-6. they all come from low income and struggling families which makes it difficult to raise money for needed things for our classroom.
My students represent diverse backgrounds, risk factors, and reflect a wide range of special needs.
My students disabilities range from Autism to developmentally delays and speech delays.
They will greatly benefit from flexible sitting in order to focus on our day to day activities. My students love investigating, exploring, creating and most of all learning!
My Project
The children in my class are diverse learners with a variety of different needs.
Bouncy Bands, stability disks, and stability ball chairs are all tools to help students who have a difficult time sitting still and completing tasks.
By allowing their bodies to move in a productive manner, both their physical and learning needs can be better served.
Bouncy Bands and stability sitting seats will provide students with a safe and quiet outlet to move their body and release their energy while keeping their minds focused.
My goal is to have a bouncy band and a stability disk for the chairs of the students who need it. The stability chairs will only be for students who need this extra support and for whom the product is a "good fit."
When a student's physical need to move can be met, their brain is freed up to be more engaged and wholly focused on the learning task at hand!
