Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In order for children to grow as learners teachers need to find strategies that work best for their students. Through music, movement, hands-on learning, technology and alternative seating I strive to reach those students who yearn for a different way to learn. When students are able to move they feel better and think better. My students are very energetic, excited, and enthusiastic about learning! My goal is to create the best learning environment for my students. Our school is a PreK-3 elementary school. We are a Title I school and we serve ESL students and special education students as well.
In my Kindergarten class I have students with different needs and disabilities.
Meeting all their needs is a priority in our classroom.
My Project
I was recently able to borrow a stability ball, wobble chair, and some stability cushions from another teacher. Immediately I could see my students engagement increase while being physically active. I have many students receiving OT and PT and I know these seating options will make a difference in their education, I saw it first hand when we borrowed the materials. Not only did I notice the difference but they did too. "We love these chairs Mrs. S, can we keep them?" my students said. When the stability ball, wobble cushions, and wobble stool had to be returned my students decided we needed them too in our classroom. Please help me make this possible for my students. They are excited about having alternative seating options instead of wooden chairs. Everyday they ask "when are our new seats coming?"
I want to enhance my students learning environment and give them the opportunity to not only engage their minds but their bodies as well.
My students need these supplies to keep their bodies engaged and their brains focused. My students will be able to attend to instruction while releasing energy. Students will be working with their core muscles, posture, and stability while engaged in learning. Freedom to move while they learn will give them the stamina and focus they need during the school day.
