Bounce Some Basketball Books into Our Libraries!

Help me give my students books about current basketball players and other facts of the game.

My Project

I am the librarian for two elementary schools, both filled with creative, fun kids who like to read. They come from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, but in the library, they share excitement over new books and information.

According to KidsCount, 43% of students in our district are eligible for free and reduced lunch – 7 out of 15 elementary schools are Title I – and 15% receive special education services.

Many students cannot get to the public library, so their checkouts at the school library are their main access to books.

I have basketball fans at both schools who have pretty much read all of the related books in our collections. They are looking for more current material about popular players (Kevin Garnett and Grant Hill were stars but aren’t on the court right now) and up-to-date records (surely there are new stats since 2010 and 2015, when many of our books were published).

Having new material in our libraries will enable my kids to keep adding to their knowledge about basketball - especially about events that have happened since they were born!
