My students need basic basketball equipment to provide more opportunity for additional students to participate in school basketball teams and to support a healthy lifestyle.
At our school we have a diverse student population with about 42% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. Our students are consistently striving to try to make things better for our school and each other. Despite the various obstacles in their life, the students are great stewards of trying to do what is right, especially when it comes to their own well being and those of their classmates. Team sports are very important to teach cooperation and social interaction.
My Project
Our school has received several Healthy School awards from our state. With today's lifestyles, many students need additional physical activities as a tool to enable them to choose a healthy path to follow. A couple of years ago, we started school 5th grade boys and girls basketball teams to increase after school activity. The basketballs, ball pumps, court markers, pinnies, and coach boards allow us to teach the fundamentals of the game and playing on a team sport. More equipment, which is greatly needed, gives more of our students an opportunity to participate in team sports that will encourage cooperation with others and especially being in charge of their own healthy lifestyle. The items we have selected give us the ability to offer a team prepared to practice and will give more students the chance to learn and play basketball and give them an advantage towards their healthy lifestyle.
