This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our young athletes demonstrate exceptional talent and dedication, but our resources are struggling to keep pace with their enthusiasm. Volleyballs frequently wear out, pop, or go missing as our girls practice relentlessly to improve their skills. We're seeking support to provide quality volleyballs for competition, club activities, regular practice sessions, and even recess practice opportunities.

Our volleyball program serves multiple purposes at McCall Elementary:

Official competition teams representing our school

After-school volleyball club activities

Physical education classes and structured practice

Student-led recess practice sessions

With such high usage across multiple settings, our current supply of volleyballs is inadequate. Quality volleyballs typically cost $25-45 each, and we need at least 20 new balls to properly support all program aspects.

Impact on Female Student Athletes

The benefits of this project extend far beyond the volleyball court. Research consistently demonstrates the profound impact sports participation has on girls' development:

Girls who participate in sports are 3 times more likely to graduate from high school than those who don't (Women's Sports Foundation, 2023)

Female athletes score 10-15% higher on standardized tests than their non-athletic peers (Journal of School Health, 2022)
