This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year I am teaching AP Biology, Environmental Science, and 3 Co-Taught Biology classes. I teach these 3 courses with a Special Education Teacher so we can help meet the needs of our diverse students. This year I will be advising the Garden Club and Eco Club. My students really care about the environment, gardens, and campus beautification.
Our Garden and Eco Clubs need the two different hydroponics grow kits so they can start growing tomatoes, peppers, green onions, and cilantro to make their own salsas.
Our club members want to grow their own fruits and veggies to make snacks to be eaten at our club meetings. My club members have a lot of ideas this year to improve campus beautification and serve our school in the form of community service and service learning.
We have lunch and after school activities planned to help maintain and keep our gardens thriving. The students will use the gloves and knee pads to weed, transplant, harvest, and prune our plants. We have a small 20 ft by 20 ft patch of grass 3 of our garden beds on wheels are on and they will need the manual grass cutter to trim the grass and the hose stand and hose to water our grass. I am teaching the students to take ownership of their new garden space.
The students want to paint our 3 garden beds on wheels as a beautification project to improve mental well being. They will use the art supplies to give our boring garden beds a make over. The students want to paint rainbows, sunflowers, and bees. Another project is to do a rock painting activity. We need the various paint sealers for the different surfaces.
