Boosting Speech and Language Skills Through Storytime and Play

My Project

Building strong speech and language skills is essential for every child’s success in school and beyond. In my classroom, I work with young learners who are developing their communication abilities, and I’m always looking for fun, effective tools to support their growth.

That’s why I’m requesting a collection of books and games that are perfect for promoting speech and language development.

These resources will help my students build vocabulary, improve listening skills, practice sequencing, and engage in meaningful conversations—all while having fun!

Here’s what I’m hoping to bring into our classroom:

Books like I Am a Dirty Dinosaur, I Am a Hungry Dinosaur, A Long Winter’s Nap, and There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed the Alphabet: These engaging, repetitive, and playful stories are perfect for encouraging children to join in, repeat phrases, identify rhyming words, and make connections between pictures and language.

Games like Fox in the Box and Elephant in the Room: These are designed specifically to support social skills, turn-taking, emotional expression, and following directions—all critical components of language development.

Brain Games: These will help build memory, attention, and cognitive flexibility while incorporating language-based tasks.

These tools will be especially impactful for students receiving speech services or those learning English as a second language. With your support, I can provide a rich, interactive environment that nurtures language development through storytelling, play, and laughter.
