My Students

Our third grade class is made up of an amazing group of students including ESL, gifted, special needs, and dyslexic children. Our school is in a high poverty school district. Funds are often not available for extra materials needed in the classroom.

Many of our students are at-risk and receive free or reduced-price lunches.

Often, they come to school without the supplies needed for class. In spite of these hardships, they are eager to learn and absorb information like sponges.

Their futures are bright and they work hard to learn the things they need to know in order to be successful. These students love coming to school and being with their peers. Every day, they come into class ready to learn something new and excited!

My Project

My students struggle with reading and writing skills. They don't have a great interest in either because it is difficult for them. We are trying to use different ways to help motivate them.

Reading and writing are two of the most important skills a student needs to master and I feel that using different items to create an interest in both will help motivate them.

Using a printer to publish their writing and create student made books is one way to motivate writing. The LCD tablets are to be used for writing practice as well.

Students love using a legal pad to write their rough drafts, revise, and edit their projects before using the computer and printer. Their learning would be enhanced a great deal by having these materials.
