it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are incredibly talented and kind and many enjoy dance class as a change of pace from their other academic activities. Several of my students struggle with anxiety and some have special needs or disabilities that increase their anxiety, especially in the context of dance class which includes lots of physical activity and requires taking emotional and creative risks. These items will help meet my students' basic needs including providing access to water (I have a Brita but we do not have enough cups for students) and a snack (Nutrigrain bars). In our building, we do not have easy access to a water fountain and the students need to be hydrated to learn and perform well. Many of my students express their struggle with stage fright and social anxiety, worsened by the global pandemic. They frequently ask me if I have stress balls or a fidget for them to manage their anxiety while in class, but I do not currently have those supplies available to me. My goal is to make dance class a safe, fun, and health-promoting space. Your contributions will enhance my students' experience in dance class and promote their mental and physical wellbeing.
