My Project

My students are a joy for me because I learn so much from them. I love that despite my students coming from lower-income backgrounds, they come to school eager to learn. Most come from diverse backgrounds, so we have many enriched discussions and educate each other on different cultures and holidays.

My students have taken an active interest in community service and would like to lead an initiative by organizing a donation of new books to students in need, within the community.

My students will research local schools within the community and literacy rates to make a plan to donate books to students at schools with limited library resources and low literacy rates. Students will determine: logistics such as the specific location or site to send books based on need, types of books to collect and send, and figure out appropriate packaging to use for shipping. Students will use this opportunity to expand, mentor and motivate each other to campaign for additional books to keep the book drive going and spread literacy throughout the community.
