Boost Up our Brains with Movement Activities!

My students need four mini trampolines and four Roller-Racer Scooters. These items will be used in our "Boost Up" gross motor room, to improve coordination skills.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Wolles's classroom raised $950

My Students

My kindergarten students have so many cognitive skills to master. They need to be able to sit and focus, and in order to do that, they need to have time to move! We need a few more activities to add to our gross motor fun. Every time we move in an organized manner, we fire up the brain!

I teach kindergarten in a small town in South Dakota.

My students are normal, active, high energy 5-year-olds. They are expected to master a multitude of Language Arts and Math standards by the end of the year. And they need to be able to sit still, pay attention and process information in order to master these standards. In today's world, young children spend a great deal of time in front of some type of electronic screen. Their lives are full of technology, and they come to kindergarten lacking in physical strength because they have not engaged in enough physical movement in their early childhood years. In our full day of kindergarten, we spend 30 minutes a day in our "Boost Up" room doing gross motor activities. Kids climb, jump, skip, hop, lift, pull, and dance in an organized manner to build coordination skills. Research shows that children who are physically coordinated have brains that work more efficiently. When we strengthen our bodies, we strengthen our brains.

My Project

My kindergartners will use the four mini trampolines and scooters on a daily basis in our "Boost Up" room. Students will participate in movement activities for 30 minutes a day to improve physical coordination and gain core strength. As students increase their physical coordination, they will in turn improve their attention spans and cognitive processing abilities.

Kindergarten should be a place to play, learn, and be active.

As we help our students increase their physical abilities, we also help them build confidence, endurance, and cognitive skills. Physical activity takes our young children away from technology and encourages them to interact with their peers. And physical activity is proven to improve mood and encourage a positive attitude. Can you imagine a room full of children participating in fun physical activities? They are all smiles!
