**Booming Literacy Centers for 1st Grade**

My students need need new materials for our morning literacy block. These material will help me instruct the daily five principals of emergency literacy : reading, writing, reading to a partner, vocabulary, and listening to reading.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an amazing group of kind-hearted and loving kindergarten and first graders. They have an incredible passion for reading and exploring the world around them. Sadly, our school district does not fund schools evenly and this greatly impacts not only the school at large, but our class individual instructional materials and resources. All obstacles aside, my kids show up for school each day with full hearts and an amazing eagerness to learn. I hope to provide them with a love of reading that they can develop and foster in the classroom and keep with them throughout their lives.

My Project

The materials requested in this project will be used each and every day in my classroom literacy block. In class, I work with the daily 5 principals of emergency literacy.

For reading, I have carefully selected a wonderful collection of social emotional learning books that focus on topics such as blended families, divorce and the importance of gender neutral bathrooms at school.

For spelling, I have added color coded letter magnets to help students build CVC words. For developing vocabulary, I have requested sight word picture bingo cards; these will help with my ELL students. For writing, I have requested fine point dry erase markers for students to use with their dry erase boards- this will help eliminate unessacry classroom clutter and and paper waste.
