This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Boomwhackers have been a staple in the music classroom for years now, and for a good reason! Boomwhackers are such a great tool for students of all ages. Boomwhackers enhance student’s music making experience by utilizing visual, aural, and kinesthetic learning. By utilizing all learning styles, I am more likely to reach all learners in my classroom and better improve chances of student understanding. Students love to play with instruments, and I would love to give my kindergarten through 8th grade kids the opportunity to explore as many of them as possible.
My goal for this project is for my students to become more engaged in their music education by playing Boomwhackers, which are easily approachable for all learners.
My students will learn how to communicate and collaborate with one another by creating music as an ensemble. Each child would receive one boomwhacker in a lesson, making the process of performing less overwhelming. They will learn that each boomwacker is crucial to creating a musical masterpiece as a class. Since covid-19, many students struggle to communicate and work as a team. I am a firm believer that music is the key to teaching kids how to communicate again.
My students come from a city school and many of them come from low income homes. The music room is a safe space for many of my kids and they come to my room as a place to escape from their harsh realities. This is my second year teaching, and my students deserve so much more than I can financially provide them right now. I believe that every child, no matter what their background is, deserves to have a high quality music education. Unfortunately, some districts cannot financially provide that support. Please help give my kiddos the education and support they deserve.
