This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Who was the first African American to go to the moon? Why did Van Gogh cut off his ear? When did Utah become a state? What do crayfish eat? Do you know the answers to these questions? Well, these are just a few of the billions of questions my students have on a daily basis and they want answers NOW!

I have a beautiful bunch of very hard working 5th grade English language learners who haven't been able to explore all the great things about being a kid.

They are hardworking, inquisitive, kind, caring, funny, and very well mannered. They just need a little help to access some of the learning tools that the average kid has access to. Our school is in a high poverty area where most of the children do not see much of life beyond their front doors. Most do not have adequate supplies at home and with all of the terrible budget cuts most items at school are now out of our reach as well. When I see my class and their hopeful faces everyday it drives me to do more and work my hardest but I need your help to open up the world for them.

My Project

My students need a Coby Tablet, OtterBox Case, Apple iPod Touch, Fine-Tip Markers, and a class set of Level V Nonfiction Books with bin. We really need a variety of materials that would add so much to our daily lives. We have been working on learning how to write expository research papers but do not have enough books to do the research with. We share one old computer in the classroom and the school library was shut down. Well with 28 students you can imagine how this is not working and why we thought that getting more non-fiction books, a Coby tablet, an ipod touch, and some materials to help display their work would really help. We use our computer for research, finding images, writing, and editing. Needless to say it has been quite difficult with only the one classroom computer being used for research, images, and writing. At times it takes over a week of waiting for for a student to get their turn on the computer! We have also asked for markers to illustrate our work.

Adding the Coby tablet and iPod to our classroom would allow our class more access to the Internet for research and learning purposes.

The markers and clips will allow my students to add illustrations to their finished products. To be able to teach them research basics now will allow them to excel in their educational futures. Please help our class jump into the technology wave by adding these research tools and basics to my exuberant, incredible students. Thank You!
