My Students

Imagine walking into a second grade classroom where most everyone else can read and you are just beginning. A class that is made up of children from a variety of cultures and backgrounds and many from low income families. Reading levels range from above grade level to below grade level. These children come to me with many diverse needs, but with a great desire to learn.

I want to provide my students with a safe, supportive and engaging classroom to learn and grow.

My Project

In second-grade our students are blossoming readers and always looking for the next new adventure. Having different chapter series books like Beverly Cleary and Capital Mysteries in the classroom library helps open up my students to a wonderful world of imagination. They love reading about what their favorite characters are up to next. Reading about the many adventures of the characters help makes connections and motivates my young readers.

I look forward to seeing my students clustered into small groups around my room, excitedly discussing the books they’re reading.

During Book Clubs, my students are happy, excited and actively engaged in their reading! They’re making predictions, sharing opinions and sharing their favorite parts.

Great chapter books like Ramona, Mr Putter, Capital Mysteries, and Ivy and Bean will help to foster the love of reading, through book clubs.
