Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As an ELA teacher, my students and I interact all day. I teach at a Title I school, in a low income area in the heart of a large city in Florida, and where my students' neighborhood and environment play a major role in their actions/behavior.
Each student, eager to learn and show what they know, and I place any classroom obstacle (lack of resources) on the side and see the plethora of possibilities that could be accomplished each day.
My students know that the things that make us happy and united are the little moments of memories that we create in the classroom.
My Project
These carefully hand-selected books focus on challenges that many people are facing today. Whether its interracial family (racism), school shooting, repeating a grade, financial struggles, standing-up for what you believe, bullying, discrimination, importance of communication, siblings relationship or a disability (Alzheimer's, Asperger's, blindness, facial anomaly, etc), these books will award students with coping, awareness and compassion when faced in any of these situation.
Skills and topics learned at school shouldn't stop at the sound of a dismissal bell.
After carefully reading and enjoying these pieces of literature, students will become better citizens and make a positive impact within our community. By completing hands-on projects and exploring the community with mentioned challenges, my students will make the text-to-world connection, providing an even deeper understanding. My students are the future. We need to invest in their education!
More than half of students from low‑income households
