This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right books." I fully believe in Frank Serafini's words and have seen the motivating power of carefully selected novels and read alouds. I hope to inspire a love of reading with excellent books!

My students come from all different backgrounds.

Over 80 percent of the students at our school receive free or reduced-price lunches. Many students speak languages other than English at home. Many students come to my classroom without a strong love of reading, but because I spend so much time and energy selecting excellent novels and read alouds, they are all little bookworms by the end of the year!

My Project

I assign my students a new novel every two weeks. Last year, there were a couple of books that overall the students just did not like. I would like to replace some of my lower-interest books with some more popular, higher-interest ones to help them get excited about reading! Also, my students will benefit from short, engaging, multicultural read alouds- which promote language and literacy development, provide an opportunity for me to model essential reading skills, and promote classroom bonding!

By the end of the school year, every child in my classroom will know the joy of reading excellent books.

With your help, my students lives will be enriched through great literature! Thank you for considering giving to my project!
