My Students
Our high school suffers from severe budget restraints which limit the amount of technology and books available to our 1,000 grades 9-12 students. The district is the third largest in New England. As an urban school district, 52.4 % of our students are economically disadvantaged, 100% of our students are eligible for free lunch and breakfast, 19% are students with disabilities. Our student population is one of the most ethnically diverse in the city with limited to no access to technology and the internet at home and zero budget for library books.
My Project
Our students will be able to pick up reading materials to read during this pandemic and school/library closure.
Our district is setting up times when students/families can come to school safely to pick up materials.
Thes books will be part of that initiative to get educational materials in our student's hands so they can continue to learn and grow!
They have gone 6 weeks without having access to books and materials to read. These books will give them a positive lift and let them know how much we miss them, value education, and want to give them the materials they need to keep learning!
