Help me give my students access to series books like Pedro and Sofia Martinez that have diverse characters that represent my third graders and a reading pouch to keep books safe in.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in the heart of the Bronx. Many of my students are English language learners and children with special needs.
Despite learning challenges my students walk into my classroom with an eagerness to learn and a determination to succeed.
My Project
While our classroom library is filled with a good selection of books, there are very few diverse characters to match the diversity in my classroom. I think it's important that young readers see themselves in the characters of books they read. I want to make this possible by providing my students a selection of books that will help them see the beauty and wonder in every person, despite how different they may appear on the outside.
Books that promote diversity are in short supply in our classroom library but desperately needed.
