This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love almost everything about my students. They are a well-mannered group of fourth graders. They are a special bunch because so many of them are artistic in some way.

Our classroom library is empty at the moment because I transferred to a new school.

We have already had the chance to go to the school library and I was pleasantly surprised how excited they were to check out books. They could only check out one book as 3rd graders, but they were so happy finding out that now as 4th graders, they can get two. I have had several weeks to observe how they handle books and I am happy to say that they are quite responsible for their age.

I want to have books available in the class because it is a great option for early finishers. It is also nice to have a mini library in the classroom in case someone forgot their books at home and have nothing to read during small group time. I have always loved reading, but I know that is not the case for most children. I think providing an opportunity for my students to interact with books in a positive way can lead them to choose to read instead of seeing it as a chore.
