Books to Keep Us Learning All Year

My students need books for our reading units, speakers for our classroom computers and pens for grading papers.

My Students

My students attend a public elementary school on the west side of Chicago where 100% of our students come from low income households. All my students are excited about learning, from the moment they walk in the door, until the moment they put their homework in their backpack in the afternoon. We take advantage of many different learning styles throughout the day to keep all students engaged.

Our students have been recently affected by budget cuts that have been district wide.

My Project

I love to incorporate picture books into our lessons as often as possible. These books often become classroom favorites, and the students read them again and again. We have recently began to follow the reading curriculum from ReadWorks.org, which uses many great titles, some well known, and some that are new to us!

Supporting this project will help our teachers use paired text passages to expand our students' comprehension skills.

According to the ReadWorks.org website: These research-based units facilitate precise questioning based on evidence in the text, and focused discussion to enable comprehension of the entire text. Read-aloud and paired text lessons embody the most effective research-proven instructional practices to support student comprehension. Units are based on superb, carefully selected leveled books, with authentic paired passages. The easy-to-use alignment tool allows you to see how each lesson aligns with Common Core and state standards. The books that I am requesting pair with the carefully-selected texts from the ReadWorks website.

By using quality literature and related text passages from ReadWorks.org our students will experience great success!

We also need some new speakers for our classroom computers and pens for proofreading and making corrections.
