This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Help inspire 4th-grade students with different abilities to read in English. I am trying to encourage students to read, whether they are English speakers or English language learners who need motivation.

The characters they have seen on TV, streaming on Disney, or in theaters came from a book first.

The class set of books includes Pete the Cat, Stanley/ Caveman from Holes, Matilda, the Wicked Witch from Wonderland Land of OZ, the Elf on the Shelf story with doll for 2026 Class Christmas fun reading and activities, The War with Grandpa, and absolutely a class favorite is Harry Potter. I am requesting Harry Potter’s complete book set and a reading group set of books.

I will use these books this spring to have fun reading for the end of the school year. I also plan to use the books this coming school year. I noticed reading levels and comprehension increase when the books are motivating and inspiring for the students to read. They are more excited about reading when the book has a movie reward or is a movie or cartoon they have seen streaming or on Disney. The goal is to get the students to enjoy reading the stories. They will often continue reading through the summer and continue to improve their reading fluency and understanding.

Please help me get new books for the class to read. I have English learners and English speakers who are anxious to read stories that are familiar but offer more depth than movies, which edit out chapters or characters to adjust for time. Students love to spot the differences between the book and the movie. I hope to encourage a deeper love of books and build a connection.
