Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many children grow up hearing stories about important people and events throughout American history: George Washington, Martin Luther King, the Battle of Gettysburg, the list goes on and on. My students come from nine different countries, and most of them have not had exposure to American history.

My students come from families who have immigrated from Mexico, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Uruguay, Pakistan, and Germany.

In fact, there is no racial or cultural majority at my school. Our classroom library has some wonderful texts, but none focus on American history.

My Project

The books I'm requesting are just what my students need: high interest texts about people and events throughout history, especially American history. My students are eager to learn about history, but we need books to support their learning. Kids will be able to take these books home, like they would from a library, and use them for independent reading and homework. I know that students will be thrilled to have these resources!

Through your generosity, my students' eyes will be opened to the world in more ways than one.
