Books to Encourage a Growth Mindset!

My students need mentor picture books and book bins to start our growth mindset library in our second-grade classroom!

My Students

I teach at an elementary school in Hilo, Hawaii. My students represent many different cultures and economic backgrounds. Most of my students are "disadvantaged" due to economic backgrounds.

I've recently moved from a 3rd grade classroom to a 2nd grade classroom this school year.

Our school has been using a state mandated reading and math curriculum. Many of our students are struggling, especially with the reading curriculum. Many of our students have never left the Hawaiian islands; therefore, their personal experiences are very limited. Our students experience difficulty relating to the stories shared in the reading curriculum, because of their limited exposure to different climates and cultures.

Although my students may be facing challenges in their lives, they are always eager to learn new things!

My Project

I am so blessed to be able to work with many young children! I get to touch their lives in ways that are sometimes unimaginable.

Watching them make little successes along their educational journey is what makes me PROUD to be an elementary teacher.

One of my goals this year is to start a classroom library of mentor picture books that teach and encourage a growth mindset. My students come to school everyday eager to learn new things and it is my job to keep that spark for learning lit for many more years to come! The colorful plastic book bins will be used to store our new picture books and other books that we currently have in our classroom. I'd like to read these books aloud to my students and have class discussions about each book and maybe do a writing or art activity as well.
