Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ten of my students are between three and four years old, have been identified with a special need, and are on an Individual Education Plan. This includes Autism, Language and Speech Delays, Cognitive Delays and difficulty with fine and gross motor skills, along with other associated diagnosis. The additional ten students are typically developing Pre-K "role model" students. All of the students are learning how to work cooperatively on all activities throughout the day.

The school population is made up of all cultures and economic situations.

The school provides free breakfast to all students and has a free or reduced lunch program for those who qualify. The teachers and administration present safe, working classrooms for all students to grow and develop in a collaborative atmosphere.

My Project

The books received for my student library will be used for my students' growth, development and enjoyment. The stories will enhance beginning early language and literacy. The pictures and print in the books will allow for growth in imagination, knowledge, creativity and even encourage them to become authors and illustrators.

The stories read to them will increase listening skills, cognitive skills and broaden their vocabulary.

The students will be given opportunities to use prediction and storytelling through picture walks. The students will also gain pre-reading skills through print awareness, identifying rhyming words, compound words and phonological awareness. Our classroom library will bring laughter and fun to all children.
