My Students

We live in a small coastal community in South Carolina. My school serves a very diverse population of students in prekindergarten through third grade. My students come from many different backgrounds and have different learning styles.

My students are eager, enthusiastic learners who embrace opportunities to learn new things and to share what they have learned with others.

Many of them are new readers who are in search of the perfect fit books to read for pleasure. They enjoy graphic novels and books about current topics of interest.

My Project

As a school librarian, one of my goals is to help my students discover that reading is something that one can do for pleasure. We do not just read to learn. We read for the fun of it. Students who read for pleasure become life-long learners. When students enter our school library, they should find books on the shelves that match their interests, books that they will want to read for pleasure.

To transform new readers and reluctant readers into avid readers, we need high interest books in our school library.

We need books that will attract the students and help get them excited about reading.
