Books That Build Bridges: Fostering SEL in Our Schools

Help me give my students books that support social-emotional learning. This is a powerful way to build empathy, resilience, and emotional intelligence. I’m committed to supporting the whole child and to develop lifelong skills like empathy and self-worth.

My Project

My students are curious, resilient, and full of heart. Each day, they show up with a willingness to learn—not just academically, but emotionally and socially. They ask thoughtful questions, support one another through challenges, and celebrate each other’s successes. What I love most is their capacity for empathy and growth. Even when life outside the classroom is tough, they bring their best selves and remind me why teaching is a privilege. I’m committed to supporting the whole child—not just academically, but socially and emotionally. By giving students access to stories that model confidence, kindness, and resilience, I’m helping them develop lifelong skills like empathy and self-worth.

The SEL books we’re requesting will serve as mirrors and windows—mirrors to reflect their own experiences, and windows to understand others.

Each title will help students:

Build Emotional Vocabulary: Books that explore feelings will give students the language to express themselves clearly and confidently.

Strengthen Empathy: Stories featuring diverse characters and challenges will help students see the world through different perspectives.

Develop Conflict Resolution Skills: Narratives that model healthy communication and problem-solving will empower students to navigate peer relationships with kindness and maturity.

Foster Self-Awareness and Growth Mindset: Books that highlight perseverance and self-reflection will encourage students to embrace mistakes as part of learning.

These resources won’t just sit on shelves—they’ll be integrated into daily lessons, circle time, and small group discussions. They’ll become tools for healing, connection, and transformation.

This collection of social-emotional learning (SEL) books will be available not only to teachers and students in 2nd grade, but to benefit all students across the grade levels.
