My Students

I teach at an elementary school in the heart of "Cajun Country" where we encourage students to become active learners and accountable for their academic success. We are a French Immersion school which is also Title 1. Our students come from diverse backgrounds but all share a common goal to make our school go from "good to great." My first graders arrive each year ready to learn how to read and my focus is not just to teach them how to read but to become "readers."

My Project

Student enjoy creating books that reflect their experiences. Whether they make a book individually ,with a partner, or group, nothing is more rewarding to them as to share their creation with their classmates. Creating their own books not only foster reading interest, but allow students to practice writing skills as they navigate through the editing process of writing. These books become class favorites because the students are proud of their creation.

Materials for writing, printing and constructing their books are needed in order to make durable books that they can share and take home throughout the school year.

Printer ink, cardstock, protective sheets are some of the materials that are needed.
