Help me give my students picture books to help social and emotional development!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Hall's classroom raised $297

My Students
The 1st-5th grade students that I teach come to class ready to learn! Each grade level gets to come for 50 minutes each day. These students ask lots of questions, share their hopes and dreams, and are ready for new innovative ways to express themselves. The enthusiasm explodes as we make new discoveries.
Their creative use of their imaginations light up the room like fireflies in May!
Our favorite thing to do during class is to learn something new. Whether it is finding a country on the map or creating a symmetrical picture, we need each other. To get along with each other, we need time to learn how to cooperate, make and keep friends, and say I'm sorry. We work together to fill each other's bucket and to show we care. These student's are one of a kind.
My Project
The picture books requested from Donors Choose are all linked to the development of the social and emotional well-being of children. The children who will benefit from these books have difficulty connecting with others. Encouragement and support activities will be tied to each book as a character lesson. For example, the book, Don't Think About Purple Elephants, is a great lesson on what to do when you are worried.
Using picture books are a great way to build self-esteem, develop strategies to not worry, or learn how to be the best YOU.
These books will be used as a whole class read aloud and then put into the children's hands to read over and over again as a sense of support that you can do anything you set your mind to. Children love to read picture books and so this is a perfect gift you can give a child!
I hope that you have a clear picture of how I plan to use these picture books in my classroom. I would love to create a digital portfolio of actually reading some of the books to my students when I receive them. Thanks again for your help with this project!
