My Students

The students I teach have amazing gifts and talents. They are young ladies and gentlemen who range from ninth grade to age 21. I am the luckiest teacher in the history of teaching because I get to help them find and develop their gifts, talents and abilities. Our school mission is to prepare students for successful transition from school to work. Our focus is on exposing the students to opportunities in the community for employment, health and human services, as well as socialization.

Our students are preparing to be sent out into a world of independent living, despite the fact that most are functioning at a 2-3rd grade academic/cognitive level.

Several students I serve also have limited mobility and fine motor skills. Although some see their limitations, I see their strength, enthusiasm, and perseverance. To me, this school is the happiest place on earth. But sometimes students get discouraged by their limitations. Finding ways to keep them positive and motivated is an important piece of my day.

My Project

Having a variety of books that are at levels my students can read will be very exciting for them. My students are high school aged, with high school interests but lack the high school reading skills necessary to read the books that are currently available to them. The books I have chosen in this project will spark the students' interests and get them excited about reading.

Everyone loves a new book to read.

I want to give that experience to my students. I want them to have books available to them that they will be interested in and that they will be able to read.
