Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are members of a low income community. They attend the same school their parents and even grandparents attended years ago. They are Hispanic, English language learners.

My students are young, curious, impressionable and eager to learn.

They lack experiences, resources and support that would make learning easier. Although, they face many challenges in their lives they attend school every day and have a positive attitude I love! My students will be successful with the right tools and me by their side to inspire a life long love for learning.

My Project

The chapter books I ordered are intended for my students to fall more in love with reading. They have a problem getting into the story from the basil but they have enjoyed the chapter books we have read so far this year. They are fun books I enjoyed reading when I was younger. We will use literature circle activities with the novels. Literature Circles are a fun and effective way to get students excited about reading.

The giant dice can be used in many awesome educational ways.

One way is in a variety of Math games. The children can roll the dice and add, subtract, divide or multiply the numbers they rolled. As a teacher I can use it to call on students/groups in a random way, Group 1, 2, 3, or 4 read ext. I have a spelling game in which each number rolled gives you an instruction to do. The possibilities with giant dice is endless!

One of my goals this year is to teach my students organizational skills, which they are lacking. The seat packs are basically for organization. Our room is small and our textbooks do not always fit neatly on shelves and desks. So, the seat packs will be used to have easy access to the things we use on a daily basis like our novels.
