I work at a fabulous school located in Chesapeake, VA. It is a Title I school that offers students the ability to get ahead of their peers. My students are growing and learning just like I am as a teacher. We are a great team that is focused on what makes learning fun. My students are a gift each year and that's what makes school exciting! Giving the children all that they need is so important to their development. The resources that I'm asking for will further their education and experiences.
My Project
I am requesting books related to African Americans, books on other minorities, books for military families, and books on other topics related to families. I will use these books to read aloud and draw on my student's understandings. These books will be able to relate to some and open up real discussions through their comprehension and understanding of each book.
“Say Something” by Peter H.
Reynolds, “M is for Melanin” by Tiffany Rose, “Hair Love” by Matthew A. Cherry, “Beautiful Shades of Brown” by Nancy Churnin, “I Am Enough” by Grace Byers, “My Hair” by Hannah Lee, “I am Brown” by Ashok Banker, and “Chocolate Me” by Taye Diggs are books that relate to African Americans.
“The Proudest Blue” by Ibtihaj Muhammad and “The Name Jar” by Yangsook Choi are books on other minorities. “H is for Honor” by Devin Scillian and “I’ll Lend You My Daddy” by Becky King are books for military families.
“Don’t Call Me Special” by Pat Thomas, "How I was Adopted” by Joanna Cole, and “I am Mixed” by Sebastian A. Jones are books on other miscellaneous topics.
I feel that these books will benefit my student's with learning other cultures and they will be able to take a look at life outside of their own lives. We all can learn and grow by seeking knowledge and growing on our understandings.
