This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book by yourself? Well my students are learning to read but we do not have all the necessary materials for our kindergarten class so that we may excel.

My students come from broken down homes where many are raised by foster parents and grandparents.

Their living situations are not so easy so when they come to school, this setting is their 'SAFE HAVEN" where they escape everything they see at home and here are protected by their teachers. But the real obstacle we face is my students are beginning to learn to read. The challenge that I face is providing them with appropriate books that they can read independently and listen to them on a CD. Research has shown that students become better readers through reading. A huge obstacle I have in my classroom is providing appropriate books for my kindergarten classroom and for these children to be able to listen to these stories on their headphones.

My Project

Please help to fund these books on tape, that are written at the kindergarten level. This would help to create the enthusiasm and energy in the classroom to become better readers. It would provide the kindergarten students with books that they would be able to read independently at their reading level. This would be a great way to help the students feel successful and realize that they can read books independently. This would help them develop the skill of being lifetime readers.

You could help me make a difference in the lives of kindergarten students.

The students are very eager to learn how to read book independently, unfortunately I do not have many books to provide for them at their independent reading level. My kindergarten class was put together later on in the year due to the over flow of the other kindergarten classrooms. If you would support this project you would help to develop the confidence of many young readers!!
