Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very sweet but can come from rough home environments. The classroom is their safe place to be kids. These students love to create, build, learn, revise their thinking, share, and so much more in our classroom. Most of our students come from Spanish-speaking homes and live in small dwellings with large families. They don't all have the support they need, so our most difficult task is to help each of them succeed and shine in their own way.

My students love to read but our library on campus just doesn't give them access to the books they are the most fond of.

I would love to offer them more.

The dynamics of my class are very interesting because students range reading at a level H all the way to a level Z. This is my school's 4th year having a STEAM Magnet program on-site, and this project will help foster a greater love for reading. Due to lack of funding, we do not have the money to keep up with the newest books on the market. My students deserve to have access to so much more.

My Project

These hardcover book sets will help build our classroom library. At times I watch my students wonder around looking for a book they want to read, but either we don't have it or someone else is already using it. Building our library will help them have more titles easily accessible to them.

It's a difficult task to keep up with all the newest book selections that hit the market, these books will help boost their interest in reading.

These books will also help promote partner reading. We have some of these titles in the classroom already and with a matching set, they can read with their peers more often.
