Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Let's get ready to battle! The national Battle of the Books program is an amazing program designed to help teens learn to love reading... and you can help this program make a difference at our school for dozens of excited youngsters!
My students are mostly Hispanic and come from a wide range of backgrounds.
They are the most responsible and respectful students I have ever had the privilege of teaching, and I am passionate about getting them hooked on learning and reading! These students have the curiosity to learn and become immersed in reading. Many of them are so excited about the possibility of us starting the Battle of the Books program that they literally come to see me every day for status updates.
My Project
The resources I am requesting are various sets of young adult literature in order to start the Battle of the Books club at our school. There are 9 different books, and I would need 4 copies of each book. The books span a range of different genres from poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. These books will allow us to conduct the Battle of the Books club and will engage my students in reading and learning. This love for reading, if nurtured, will last a lifetime.
This project is important to the students I teach and to myself because it allows them to be supported in their reading efforts and love of reading.
This program I am trying to start will help my students read literature from all different genres, and will give them the resources to love reading outside of the classroom. Many of my students do not have the money or support from home to purchase their own young adult literature. I truly feel this project will change their lives!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
