Books, Music. - Music Books.....

My students need books about musicians, music, music history and composers to develop their knowledge of history, and various genres. These books will be used in their research projects, for extracurricular reading, and to help them understand the musicians or music we study in class.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am the only music teacher for 1600 students in an inner city high school. My students mainly come from very low income families. 80% of the students are learning English as a second language. My focus in music is to give each student the opportunity to explore music and link my curriculum to the core subjects such as math, literacy, history...

When I accepted the music job at the beginning of the 07-08 school year there were 15 students in the music program. When we ended the school year there were over 100. Music is a high interest area in the school but the resources are seriously out dated. The music books consist of encyclopedias, and dictionaries. I want to give the students a music library that will include sheet music recordings, and books. The books will supplement the instrumental and performing classes with some tangible information.

The books in this proposal will get the music library started. Students will be able to look up information, read about an artist, and develop an understanding of more styles of music. They will also be able to look into the lives of the musicians that came before them, relating their own lives to those of musicians that started in the same place and worked to become successful.

Your help will give my students the knowledge of music, the love of music and help create life long musicians (people who love, listen, play and support music and the arts). You will be giving them the opportunity to read and learn about current musicians along side the historical musicians that laid the path to the current trends.
