Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My library is in a public, inner city school. The students come from low income homes and 100% receive a free lunch. Students in my school come from culturally diverse backgrounds and depend on the school library to offer them books that are diverse, current and up to date. My students enjoy the books I can provide them on a weekly basis because the public library is far away and because they don't have money to buy books. Many of my students are very appreciative when I can put new books in the library and are excited to check them out for the first time. I often hear "Thank you," or get a hug.

My Project

Students need to learn how to express their emotions appropriately. It is important for students to learn how to share, be kind, be a friend, control their anger, control worry and more. I have picked out several books that deal with many common SEL topics. These books can be used by classroom teachers, parents, myself or even read by students themselves to discuss social skill topics. Social-emotional skills are lifelong skills and are so important for students to develop in order to make friends and be successful throughout life.
