My students need mentor texts in order to learn from real authors and illustrators so they can become better readers and writers.

My Students

Books are such an integral part of the learning we do related to literacy. We can learn so much as readers and writers from the books that we read. We need some great mentor texts to enhance our literacy learning!

My students are a diverse set of kids within a school where many cultures are present.

They are a great group of second graders who are eager to learn. They are learning in both English and Spanish and are on their way to becoming bi-literate citizens. They are excited and ready to continue their learning!

My Project

These books will be used during both reading and writing portions of our day. I, as the teacher, can use these texts to show real examples and model certain skills. The students will be able to learn from these real-life authors. This will help deepen students' comprehension and they can try to emulate the strategies we have studied. They will engage in discussion about the book to further their learning.

Good books, which we use as mentor texts, are harder to find in Spanish.

These books will add variety and will enhance the limited selection that is available to the students. These texts will help the students understand better and will get them excited about their literacy learning!
