This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are enthusiastic to start reading. Every day I want them reading independently and with their partners but I need more level A-C books to Fill up their book bags and keep them engaged.

My students are mostly second language learners from lower income families.

They are motivated to learn! Many families do not have a lot of books in their homes and I would like to be able to have students reinforce their learning and bring their easy reader books home to read to their parents.

My Project

MY students spend time reading books in class in guided reading groups with me, independently or with their reading partner. These books need to be simple text so that they can feel successful reading on their own. At this point, so many students are reading at level A and B that is difficult for me to provide them with books so they can each use their time wisely and not feel like they keep reading the same books. With more books they will be more engaged and interested.

The books they can get their little hands on, the more likely they will become successful readers!

If they can learn to spend a chunk of time Engaged in reading each day they will become life long readers.
