Help me give my students books in Portuguese. Our school is getting new students who only speak Portuguese and I want to make sure that we have books available that they can read while acquiring English.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have a very diverse population at our school. Most of our students are English learners. Many of them do not have access to resources that will help them improve their academic skills. This project will support our Newcomers who speak no English. Most of them just got here and they have limited access to books.

Your donation will help our ESL students who are new in the country and need resources that will help them develop their literacy skills.

Most of my students are Spanish and Portuguese speakers. Some of them come with a lot of background knowledge which can be used to help them learn new content while they also learn English. They all want to acquire the language that will help them to better communicate and to complete their academic tasks.

My Project

A good number of newcomer students come with good literacy skills in their first language. However, most of them can't speak, read or write in English. They are motivated to learn, but they need resources that will help them transfer some of the skills they have in their native language. I want to make sure that students have access to native language books that will help them with reading skills while they are acquiring English. Students will have access to books in English and in their native language. Students will also be able to take some of these books home to read with their families.
