Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are lifelong learners who are eager to learn about themselves, each other, and the world around them. They ask the most questions, have the brightest ideas, and solve every problem at hand. They are creative and intelligent thinkers. We are all in a time of need, you have the opportunity to enhance their learning!
My Project
Teachers are currently being asked to rethink education. In order to transform the way we teach, we need to start with what text we are putting in front of our kids. I found two new texts I am teaching this year. We read the first, Inside Out and Back Again. And now we are moving onto Hatchet, before we read the third, One Crazy Summer. Standards are completely aligned, but the literature is richer in language, in character, in culture, and in engagement. My black and brown students need books to be mirrored, so they can see themselves and connect to experiences. They need books to be doors, so they can step into a world of new knowledge. And with distance learning, they need these books in their hands!
