This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I absolutely love how curious, hardworking, and resilient my students are. They come to school each day ready to learn, support each other, and grow as readers and thinkers. My students are part of a diverse, dual language program where they are learning in both English and Spanish, which takes incredible dedication and focus. Many of them face challenges outside of school, but they continue to show up with enthusiasm and a love for learning.

The chapter books I’m requesting will be used in small reading groups to help students dive deeper into texts, build their comprehension skills, and engage in rich discussions.

These books will be carefully selected to match students’ reading levels and interests, which means each child can feel successful and excited about reading. Having access to a variety of chapter books will allow me to differentiate instruction and meet the needs of all learners—from those who need a bit more support to those ready for a new challenge.

My goal for this project is to help students grow their love of reading while also strengthening key literacy skills like making inferences, analyzing characters, and discussing themes. With books they enjoy and can relate to, students will be more motivated to read, talk about what they read, and write about it, too.

What makes my students truly special is their passion, perseverance, and joy in learning. These resources will help me nurture that by giving them the right books at the right time—books that will make them feel seen, capable, and inspired.
