My Students

Our school is in the heart of Brooklyn, NY. It includes students from Pre-K to eighth grade, and it is a melting pot of descendants from the West Indies. The school is in a high poverty area, and about 95% of the students in the school receive free lunch. There are 18 energetic, three and four-year-old children in my class but there are not a lot of funds to enrich these students' education because of the budget cuts and although our families give us support they can't always help out financially.

My Project

Most of my students have never been to school before. Everything is new, the centers they will play and learn in, the playground, even handling books. I have to introduce these things to them and teach them how to make the right choices while they are there. The books I am requesting will help me do this.

Using quality literature will help my students understand what they will do and learn in school.

The books I am requesting have familiar or likable characters that the students can relate to. These characters will help model positive behavior that I hope my students will emulate.
