This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kindergarten students are amazing. Including myself, we're a group of 10 -- quite small. There was over enrollment in our school district, so I was offered my position 3 days before school started and given 3 days to set up the classroom.
Given that we were limited on supplies the first few weeks of school, it's incredible how much my students have learned and engaged in the curriculum — especially reading!
My students believe in a growth mindset and love growing their learning muscles.
My Project
Building a classroom library will give my students a voice through their reading selections. Reading is essential to a child's growth, but especially essential in kindergarten to bring that love of reading into their lives at an early age. I want my students to know that they are readers and they have super reading powers!
Because my classroom library is quite limited, my students don't have a big selection to go on different reading adventures, but with more books, I'll be able to engage my students and teach them that reading is fun, cool and exciting.
I'll be able to use the classroom library as a space for students to explore and as a free choice option that will be highly coveted.
