This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our student-athletes are members of a successful soccer program who has won state, made 2 state appearances, and won the city championship.

Our soccer program is one giant family.

The boys consider the team their second family.

The student-athletes are committed to soccer, each other, and their academics. They are always striving to be the best student-athletes that they can be, and our program is constantly pushing them to be their very best self.

My Project

We have three levels in our soccer program and all three levels have a 2-3 captains. The captains are learning to take on a lot more responsiblity and step up as young leaders.

Each season, the athletes who are interested in being captains prepare a speech for their team that explains why they would be a good captain.

Their teammates vote on which athletes they want to be captains.

The captains then go through leadership training before the season truly begins. This season, we want to add an extra layer to our process by providing a leadership book for each captain to read and the coaches will have a book club with them.
