This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are absolutely amazing in every way. Our class is complete with 25 enthusiastic, curious and animated first graders from a range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our class is an integrated co-teaching (ICT) classroom meaning that a portion of our students have special needs. Our needs range from speech and language disorders to autism, and none of the labels stop any of the students from trying their hardest and always exceeding expectations. These 25 students are dedicated, and excelling in the classroom is the norm!
Our class of students is a unique, clever, determined and persistent bunch with a range of interests and needs--making each and every lesson new and exciting!
My co-teacher and I take a very hands-on approach to education which allows students to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
My Project
My students need National Geographic Readers in order to have books that pique their interests in a variety of subjects. These readers are at appropriate reading levels and have incredible images and engaging text. All students have different interests and it is life changing for a student to have books that make them want to read more. Learning is a blast and these books will only enhance our learning!
These books will be used not only during individual reading time but also to support our students in our non-fiction reading and writing units.
It is imperative that our students have great mentor texts as it aids them both in their reading and their writing. Volcanoes, planes, tigers and Martin Luther King are only some of the wonderful things we are eager learn about!
