This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

One of my school counseling goal this year was I wanted my students to gain a new love for reading and explore/discuss more mature topics and real world issues. There is so much happening in the world today and it is difficult for these young students to find their voice amongst all the chaos. With this book club and reading this book "the hate you give" they are creating a safe place to talk about these difficult topics and what is going on in the world they live in. I want them to feel heard and to feel validated about what they are feeling when they read this book. There may also be feelings that they have never even experienced because no one talks about it to them directly and gives them the opportunity to voice what they have to say in a safe place. Also having these young ladies use critical thinking skills, open-mindedness and understanding when talking about the book. I also gave these young ladies the choice to pick what book they would like to all read together and it was unanimous with this particular book! So they are they are so excited to begin this club and I would love to get these books to them as soon as I am able to.
