This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My PreK classroom is a vibrant, hands-on learning environment where students can explore and become life-long learners. Some of my students not yet discovered books that capture their imagination. I want my students to fall in love with reading and math. I want to keep them in engage.

I have a fantastic group of Pre-K students who are learning in two languages.

They come ready to learn and are full of energy for every day. They love to read and write, and they amaze me everyday with their ideas and questions. My students are also inspiring mathematicians, artist, scientist, and historians. They love to learn through art activities and math games. This listening center will be used during free-choice centers. It will be available for the students to choose during the week, as part of their independent choice time. Many of the titles are first introduced during whole group using interactive reading strategies.Having these texts available for students to explore and re-read again allows students to practice their understanding and comprehension. Students can practice their social skills by interacting with a partner to retell what they have learned.

My Project

My students love to be read stories and to participate in engaging, critical thinking discussions about books. My students need a listening and math center! Helping our classroom with the funds for this technology would allow groups of students to listen to stories being read to them during literacy centers while they closely follow along with the words on the pages. These books on CD provide another way for students to experience the love for books. They will learn so many literary components from using listening to these books. During the month of March, we will be discussing the seasonal changes and weather that occur in the Spring. We will focus on how it affects our everyday lives and the lives of animals. The children will be learning about the Cycle of the butterfly throughout interactive models and a live garden of butterflies. Students will keep a "butterfly journal" recording and discussing their observations.

I love reading stories to my students!

However, the experience of reading independently and getting lost in a great book is truly invaluable! A listening center will develop their reading stamina and set them on a path for future success as their love for reading is enhanced. Your donation to our project will give my students the opportunity to experience their favorite stories another way and with independence!
