This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
About My Students
My students love to read and love our school community. That's why they decided to write this DonorsChoose grant to improve our 7th grade library. They want to challenge and enjoy themselves as readers, and to create a project that will also benefit other students now and in the future.
I'm excited that my students are enthusiastic about reading! They are curious about a wide variety of topics and passionate about the books they like. They chose books by their favorite authors, of their favorite genres, and about topics that interest them. Some of these books are about the Revolutionary War, which my students are studying in Social Studies class.
I love that this project will have a long-term impact on both my current students' learning and on future students' learning. These books will remain in our 7th grade library for years to come. Students will become better readers and explore new ideas and perspectives as they read books of various genres and topics.
"The inspiration for this project was the love of books. Everyone in our school loves to read. This project is very important to us because it'll change every student's way of thinking about books. Getting new books will change the way kids engage in their books. Books will help every student's vocabulary. They will help us build reading stamina. It'll be easier for us to get into college. Books benefit us because we get knowledge and learn facts and lessons.
What inspired this project was how it takes some of us a long time to find books we like in our library. We have already read a lot of the books. We want new books like books by Malcolm Gladwell and books about music.
Books are one of few things that show humans actually think. It's not only about knowledge, it's more about creativity. Books are portable worlds that we carry around. They are there when you feel lonely. The characters all connect to us. They show us how to get through problems. They become our heroes, our saviors.
In Their Own Words
Our goal is for kids to be able to read, and have the opportunity to learn. We want to hear everyone talking about their books. We want them to argue, preach, compare, and examine the books. The books teach us life lessons.
This project will help us prepare for the future because we would be able to read things that we don't see every day. This would prepare us for college. Students can also practice reading and do better on the ELA state exams. Reading helps us kids see things differently.
We will use the books as soon as we get them. They will be in our 7th grade library so students can check them out. We would like to raise money to have all kinds of books, including different genres like romance, thriller, mystery, etc. We will appreciate these books because they help us learn more. Future students will feel excited to read."
