Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are a diverse and incredibly resilient group of English Language Learners (ELLs) who speak various first languages, including Spanish, Arabic, French, and more. For many of them, this is their first year learning English, and their first year in an American classroom. They are eager to connect with their peers, access their grade-level content, and share their unique cultures and experiences.

As their new ENL teacher, I am building my classroom from the ground up!

My students come from a high-poverty community, and many do not have access to supplemental educational materials at home. My biggest challenge is providing the foundational, highly visual, and hands-on tools they need to bridge the language gap and feel confident as they acquire a new language. These foundational resources are not supplied by the school, and are essential for a successful start.

This project, will provide my students with the fundamental resources critical for rapid language acquisition and classroom organization. My students need materials that make abstract concepts concrete and comprehensible.
